Unprofitable

This is Roy, born disabled on a dairy farm, got vitamins, physiotherapy and acupuncture to help him walk.

Maybe if Roy had been healthy in the first place, he wouldn't have been here. But he wasn't, fortunately.

Meat industry is one of the most cruel ones in the world and this is not a matter of being vegan or not, it's a fact.

Factory farms are still dominating the meat industry and the "practices" there are horrible. Not only are the source of distress and pain for the animals that are daily exploited in these confinements, but also the fact that animals are exposed to damaging chemicals, antibiotics, and some diseases resulting of this confinement.

Therefore, as consumers, we should be aware of this. So, here are some facts of factory farms that may (or may not) surprise you.

1. Chickens’ beaks are sliced off in order to avoid cannibalism

Although this is an archaic practice, chickens' beaks are sliced off since they're crammed in very small cages and there's no room for all of them. As a result, they peck themselves to death.

2. Do you know what antibiotics you’re eating?

Again, as animals are crammed into cages that can't fit them all, they live in quite deplorable conditions and get sick. Therefore, antibiotics are given to these animals in order to prevent diseases.

3. Baby chicks are ground up alive the day they hatch.

First of all, why?! Another archaic and horrible practice. If baby chicks are unprofitable in any way re thrown onto a continuously moving conveyor belt to then be tragically and instantly ground up alive. Yes, this happens.

4. Many cows die before they are even 5 years old.

Cows can potentially live to about 20 years old yet the dairy industry ends dairy cows’ lives by sending them to slaughter before even reaching the age of 5.

5. Veal calves are enchained with weighty metal rings.

Another terrible "practice" is the tragic saddling of baby cows. Apart from getting their horns painfully removed without anaesthesia, veal calves are often forced to endure having weighty chains attached to their necks to prevent them from moving too much.

I know this sounds too harsh but it's like this. Many countries banned some of these practices such as New Zealand. Maybe, as human beings have accomplished many great things but we still have a long way to go.

Love,
